Mr. T. Midgley, who recently resigned the conductorship of the Auckland 'Leiuertafel, vms the recipient last night of a very fine smoker's companion from the ambers of the society. Owing to Mr. Midgley's ill-health the presentation was made by Mr. G. M. Reid, president, at a meeting of the committee instead of the members. The companion was suitably engraved, and the recipient feelingly acknowledged the appropriate gift, adding that although he regretted having to retire from the conductorship he was very pleased to be still associated with the society.
