WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Waitemata, County Council met. in the Council Chambers, Palmerston Buildings, Mr A. Bruce being in the chair. Deferred.—A letter was read from 3Jr F. Bayer with reference to the condition of a bridge in the Upper Waiwera, which was described as rotten and risky to cross. Action in the matter was deferred for three months owing fo lack of funds. Road Improvements.—A deputation of settlers waited on the Council, asking for repairs to the road from Waiku-metc-road to Henderson Valley, which was said to be in a very bad state. It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the engineer with instructions to spend up to £20 on the necessary repairs. Kuc-.eu Bridge.—The tender of Mr J. Scholium for Kumeu Bridge was accepted. The amount of the tender was £ 144 13/. Mr Moffatt's tender of £24 6/ for the formation of 27 chains of main East Coast road. Orewa, was accepted, and Mr Davidson's tender of £32 10/ for the formation of 19 chains of Robertson's road, Wainui, was also accepted. Dairy Flat Road.—Mr Seruby wrote urging the Council to expend the £ 150 grant of last year on the Wade-Dairy Flat road, and expressing regret that the Council had not seen fit to consult the shopkeepers before fixing the halfholi.iay (Thursday). The derk reported that no ropJy had been received to the application, and it was resolved to rcplj accordingly. It was decided with reference to the half-holi-d.iy that a reply should be sent pointing out that it was necessary that the day be universal. The Sanitary Depot.—Mr Kerr-Tay-lor moved a inoti>*i deprecating the comment madj by the District Health Officer on thi- insanitary state of the depot at Harkhi's Point, and blaming the Council for ibe nuisance. He said that when permission was given to the sanitary contractors to establish the depot it was understood that the Health Department should assume control of the place, and if it was in an insanitary condition it was the fault of the Health Department and not of the Council. The chairman moved, after Mr Kerr-Taylor"s motion had been carried, that the matter c f the existence of a nuisance bo further investigated. The resolution was carried. Finance. —Accounts totalling £336 7/4 were passed for payment. (Proceeding.)
