CITY COUNCIL.
The City Council met last night. Present: The Hon. B. Mitchelson (Mayor), Crs. G. Knight, J. McLeod, L. J. Bagnall, A. J. Bntrican, S. C. Brown, \V. Hutchinson, J. Court, G. J. Parr, J. T. Julian, C. Grey, and Dr. Sharman. Mr Scott, ex-Mayor of Dunedtn, was also present, and was accommodated with a seat near the Mayor.
Sanitary Matters.—H. kiddle wrote stating she was not in a position to put in a water-closet at her house.—The Mayor said he had given instrnctions that until the Council had definitely decided what to do in the matter of permanent drainage works no further notices should be issued in respect to putting In water-closets. He understood that to be the feeling of the Council in the matter. —His Worship's action was •approved.
Quay Street. —An application by the Northern Roller Milling Co. for permission to erect two horse-posts in Quay street was declined.
Domain. —The District Engineer of Railways asked the Council to co-operate in fencing the Domain on the line of rails.— The letter was referred to the Streets Commitee. , ' '
Stewart Street—Arthur asked to have the footpath in Stewart street attended to.—The engineer reported that instructions had been given to carry out the work asiied for.
Domain Pavilion.—The Cricket Association asked for a kus ring in the pavilion. This was agreed to. The association also wrote agreeing to pay the proportion asked by the Council for a telephone iv the pavilion.
St. Matthew's.—The Council accepted the invitation of the Vicar of St. Matthew's to attend the consecration service of the new building.
Tenders.—Tenders for supply of housenumbering plates were referred to the Streets Committee, with power to act. The tender of John Hill, £149 15/, was accepted for the erection of a propagating-house in the Domain.
Water Supply.—The Town Clerk submitted a memo, re the proposed waterworks loan of £150,000, suggesting that the security be the water rates, that there be a half per cent, sinking fund, and that the duration of the loan be 21 years.—The suggestions were adopted by the Council. fcteam Whistles. — Complaints re steam were referred to Streets
