DINNER AND BALL.

The yearly dinner p.rd ball of the Engine* drivers' and Firemen's Association and Amalgamated Society of Railway EliiploySa took place in tho Chohtl Hell last night, and passed ofi very aucce?efully. An excellent spread was provided by MrT. McEvvin, of the City Buii'ef, to v/hich 200 ladies and gentlemen sat dov7n. Mr o. Whitburn took tbe chair, and was supported on the right by Mr J. Coom, Resident Engineer, and on the left by Mr Elliott, bend of the Locomotive Department. Mr V. Robinson waa Vice-chairman. The following toafits wern drunk :—" Tho Queen and Koyal Futnily," "Tho Governor," "The Legislative Cuur.-----oil." and •' The House of .Representative!?," proposed by Mr Maxwell ■ '-Htiids of Departments," proposed by theChairmuD, and responded to by Mr Coom ; " Drivers' and Firemen's Association and Amalgamated Society of Hailwny Employes," proposed by Mr Elliott, and responded to by the Vice-chairman and Mr Leeke ; " Kindred Societies," proposed by Mr Leeke, and responded to by Meeaiß Farnall, Grant (President of Trades and Labour Council), and Pye. Tho remaining toasta _ wero "The Chairman," "Trie Ladies,'1 "The Press," and "Tho Host." Dancing commenced immediately after the dinner, Messrs McCarthy and Oscar Peete acting as M.C.'c, and the incidental music being capitally discoursed by Messrs Morris (cornet). Davis (violin), Bead (piano), and Bi-rthwick (double ba?s). A full programme of twenty-four dances was gone through, and Mr McEwin kept the refreshment table well supplkd during the night.
