SIXTY SQUARE MILES IN ERUPTION.

Wellington, last night.

A telegram from Ta'upo, time 7 p.m., stales the eruptions were confined to the country round about AVairroi -and Lake Tarawera; hence towards Ktun_ga.roii. A largo part of the country is in action, probably over sixty squareViriles, but it is impossible to say with-certainty on account of the dense smoke. All the country from iakc Tarawera to Kaingaroa Plains is more or less active, to all appearances We have not heard of any Taupo natives being there ; and we are certain to have heard of them had' there been any. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here, but no damage teas done.
