Tftiroa MinesAt the Golden Arrow meeting last night Messrs Barty Turtle, Cook, b'owden, and Bower were appointed directors. The Star of the South meeting bas deteimined to form a company with IG,COO shares of £1 nil paid. Messrs W. C. Wilson, W Howe, Crawford, Brodie. and Eawden, were appointed provision aldirectors, Mr J. A. Chapman, legal
manager. The Stewart G.M.C have traced the Puketui reef to their boundary and have commenced work in earnest. Yesterday afternoon splendid stone from No. 2 shaft in the drive was grassed in prospectors which showed gold to the eye. It; crushed remarkably well. The drive has penetrated the reef eight feet, and there is no indication of the foot wall. '1 he constitution is mixed conglomerate and quartz and the lj-tter stone shows gold freely. The drive is 35 feet noith of the main shaft, and the gold iich on the hanging wall side at the bottom of the main shaft. It is evident theie is a run of gold here of no limited area. Operations have'.bc-en.rtstimed in £o. 1 fchaft ccmmeiicing to sink on the underlie the drive p;e3-cing a montser reef which shows no signs of bangirjg wall and what the width it will be is matter conjecture. Splendid prospects were obtained throughout the day from it, and it appears to run ; the rich stone hugging the hanging wall. Sluicing has been carried on dining the past two days and exposes the reef and collects surface gold in sufficient quantity to make the experiment remunerative, showing the run of the lodes usefnl in the further developement of the mine.
'Jfce Puketui Company's manager reports having got solid ground, and a marked improvement in the appearance of the reef. He is elriving, and taking about 2i feet of the iode with him. There is more conglomerate amongst the qtiariz than formerly, which is accepted as ag< od sign. Yesteiday a nice show of gold was obtained from loose stuff The manager states the solid stone yields well in the mortar.
rJ he Syndhurfct diive is in 50 feet, and the manager is through the conglomerate of quaitz and cement.
