ACCIDENT ON THE RAILWAY.
An accident, fortunately not attended with any serious consequences, occurred on the railway last night at Mr Fisher's slaughterhouse. It is the custom for the afternoon Mercer train to shunt off a freight van at the slaughter-house to ba loaded during the night with meat, and brought into the city by the train early next following morning. Last night the van was shunted as usual, and the guard carefully put the break hard down. The heavy gale that waa blowing last night, however, must have forced the car partly back on to the main line again, for when the down Mercer train passed an hour and a-half afterwards, it struck one corner of the meatvan, knocking it clean over the embankment, md smashing it considerrbly. The locomotive was slightly injured, but was not thrown off the line or very much impeded in its forward course, and no harm was done to the carriages or passengers.
