GREYMOUTH.
(Per Press Telegram Agency.) This day,
Abolition Meeting.
A public meeting was held last evening re the Government proposal for the abolition of the provinces. The following resolution moved by Mr. Woolcock, Provincial Secretary, and seconded by Mr Guinness, M.P.C., was carried unanimously:—"That this meeting is strongly favourable to the abolition of the provinces throughout New Zealand, and heartily approves of the bill introduced by the Government for that purpose." The second resolution, • also unanimously carried, was —" That this meeting regrets that the member for Grey Valley District, knowing, as he must do, the strong feeling that exists in this constituency in favor of the abolition of the provinces, has not hitherto given any intimation of his intention to support the Bill introduced by the Government to effect that purpose." The meeting was one of the largest ever held in the Grey district.
