(Before Messrs. E. Isaacs and J. Chad wick, Justices.) AGED SAMUEL. Sumuel Glenoross, an old man, who had 'frequently been caught nappiag on other occasions, was again brought up on a charge of drunkenness. He pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s and costs.

KITTY OF COLERAINE. Catherine Townsend, alias Burke, was found last night in a muddle in Durhamstreet, near a puddle. She was unable to get up, being in a state of intoxication. ' Charles Barnes appeared in answer to a summons, charging him with using abusive language towards Mr George Stames, oq the 27th July/" • ' / - Defendant said he was not guilty. Mr Stainea deposed that defendant had occupied a house of his, and had great difficulty in getting his rent. He was ultimately obliged to put the brokers into the house, which offended him. He, defendant, was very abusive ; called him a swine, and that he would do for him. He was afraid that defendant would do him some bodily harm. Defendant said that he wished to have his rent-book, and if there was any law in New Zealand, he would have justice. Mr Staines had called him a certain name which made him angry, and that he had used words which he should not otherwise have done. Mr Staine3 was recalled, and denied that he called defendant a scoundrel.

The Bench said that, as there were no witnesses on either side to corroborate either statement, each party must pay his own costs, and the case must be dismissed. CITY RATES. Mr Philips informed the' Court that the several cases set down for hearing where persons had neglected to pay their rates had been settled out of Court.

This was all the business.
