MUCH-ADO-ABOUT-NOTHING.
In the window of Mr Messenger, greengrocer, to-day was exhibited a printed slip of paper, something about putting a bill in his window for the Fakir of Oolu. The paper attracted considerable curiosity and at times a little crowd gathered to read it, but very few could make head or tail of the brokenwinded composition and the singular scrawl beneath it. Ws learn on enquiry, however, that Messenger had a quarrel about putting a bill in his window, and, like men of his class, he rushed off and got someone to wrife him a letter, in which he makes wholly unwarrantable remarks on Mr Rainer, business manager for the Fakir of Oolu, for which it is quite possible, if time will permit, he may ytt have to answer. The slip exhibited in Messenger's window to-day is this letter, and beneath it is scrawled a lot of rubbish comparing him to a monkey, and making various stupid jokes aboub rotten fruit, und so forth. This seems to have been pent him by post. It is not improbable that the man who distributed the bills of the Fakir has laken this mode of revengirg himself. Hug in exhibiting tbe letter in his window, Messenger has headed ifc with libellous remarks reflecting on Dr. Silvester, who, we are confident, knows as much of the quarrel as the man who wrote Messenger's letter knows about the conduct of a gentleman. Dr. Silvester hns a European reputation, and this disgraceful attempt to draw him into a petty row, ia most; unjustifiable and will certainly not meet with any sympathy from the public. The object of the proceeding is easily understood, the opportunity being no doubt made use of as a mode of gaining notoriety. The dodge is by no means new, nor has ii; usually been regarded as very creditable.
