ARRIVAL OF THE HERO.
The Hero left Syduey and cleared the He-ids at 6pm on the 27tia July ; rounded the North • npe at 10 45 am on the Ist itst, and arrived Jin. harbour at daylight this mc.rnißg. On the passage across'the Hero experienced stron? gales, principally from tha westward, with heavy, cloudy weather, frequent heavy rain showers, and very high sea to the Three Kines ; thence to arrival in port fine steady weather, westerly winds still prevailing. We are indebted to Mr Cogswell, the purser, for the following list of passengers and f.jr delivery of file 3; also to Mr .Tudd, chief steward, for late Melbourne papers. Passengers— Saloon: Captain and Mrs Burton, Mr and Mrs J. Emblintr, Mrs Ffobson, Mrs Field, Miss Stephen, Mr R H Baird, Master George and Henry Lyle. Kav J. A. Nolan, Mr and Mrs Taunton, 2 children and servant. Miss Hood, Mr B. E. Jones, C. Ring, P. Mcßride, P. A. Philips, and 34 in the steerage.
The Union Company's ss Tanpo, Captain Macfarlane, arrived here this morning at loam She left Port j halmers at 4.3-1 p m on the 27th ult, and arrived at Lyttelton the following morning at 10 am; left same day at 4 15 pm, and arrived at Wellington at Bam on the 29;h: fine weather and smooth water ■was experienced since leaving; left Wellingtjn at 7am on the 30th, proceeded to Soatne's Island and emburkeil 42 immigrants f.ir Taranafti and proceeded on royage at 10 20 a m. anived at Pict jn at 3 p m ; left at 4 p m. arrived off Nelson at Sain on the 31st, and at the wharf at 5 30 p m ; left same night 8 33 pm. arrived off taranaki at r>oon yesterday, but was unable to communicate with the bhore ,' left at 1.30 p m. under easy steam, and crossed the bar this morning at 7.45, arriving as asove. Etpertenced strong N W g»le, with thick weather, from Wellington to Nelson ; from ihence stroog N W and westerly winds with high sea. The b'icr Vision arrived from the Samoa and Friendly Groups on Saturday night She has had a successful cruise, and has returned with a full cargo of copra, maize, and otser island produce. In a gale on the passage out she had the misfortune to lose nine out of twelve valuable horses shipped in Auckland. She nas made an extending round of the Jsltnds, hnving touched at Eoa, Tongatabu, Hatipai, Vavau, Opoln. Tutuila, Swain Island, Apia. Her last port was Tonga; which was left on the 17th ult. On the run home she encountered a very stiff gale on the 29th. Made the Poor Knights on the 30th, at midnight, and anchored in harbour at 8 p m on the 31st. The Vision is to load again for the Islands. Mr Thos Fane 1, the owner of the Vision, and Mrs Farrell have accompanied Captain Loverock during the trip. Mr Naemi comes as a passenger. The ss Hero is appointed' to" leave again for Sydney on Wednesday next
The barque Lady Franklin arrive \ it Kaipara from Wellington on the 24th u!t. She is to load timber for Queenscliff on beha f of Mr John Reid.
Ihe a. 8 P Go's Southern Cr s* arrived ia harbour on Saturday night from Napier via the Thames Passengers—Messrs Binks ■■•unley, fiow, GuTney, G.Ellis, Rich, Mclntosh, Burnett,'Mrs Pulman, and three in the steerage.
The s s Go-ahead was obliged to put back to Wanganui on Saturday night. An absurd rumour obtained currency in town yettsrday that she hai been lost on the coast.
The barque Robin a Dunlop will be ihe next vessel for London after the tfernglen: she loads on behalf of the New Zealand Shipping Company, and as a large quantity of cargo'ls shut out from the Fernglen, she may be depended on to have quick dispatch.
The schooners Gem and Golden' Isle cleared in ballast for Russell to-day.
