GRAHAMSTOWN.
(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Reception of the Abolitiion Scheme. The abolition scheme was very favourably received here by all classes. The Advertiser to-day says that it is neither provincialism nor centralism, but " Local self-Govern-ment" in the broadest sense of the term. A public meeting is to be held to-morrow night on the matter.
The death of Judge Beckham caused much surprise and regret here.
Child Smothered. An inquest was held on the body of a child 1\ months old, the .daughter of Mr Curtis Moore who died during the night. Medical testimony attributes death to suffocation, caused by either lying on its face or its mouth being covered with a blanket. A verdict of "accidentally suffocated" was returned.
The CureThe Cure retorting will not finish before night. The total yield will be about 1200oz. The appearance of the mine this morning is very satisfactory. The Long Drive is getting nice specimens to-day from a small branch leader.
