This day. _ A meeting is to be held to-night to consider what steps can be taken to send four representatives from New Zealand to the international rifle contest in Philadelphia. At a meeting of Volunteers last night Captain Murray, T.S., was presented with the District Champion Belt, and marksmen's badges were also distributed by Mrs Captain Fraser.
Tairua Company. At a meeting of the directors of the Tairua Company last night, Mr Sims was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for an efficient self-acting tramway from the mine to supply a large plant. The question of the battery capable of conveying stuff to erection of a 40 head battery was discussed, and its necessity acknowledged, but arrangements were postponed till next meeting. The Cure broke down another section of black lode to-day, and got good rich gold. Sales : Golden Calf (paid), 12/; Tairua, 55/ ; Gem, 7/, 7/3; El Dorado, 3/6 ; Bank of New Zealand, £17 15/.
