LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Raglan Matters. In the Legislative Council, in reply to Mr Chamberlain, the Government said a geological survey had bsen made of the Raglan district, and if requested it would be laid on the table. No steps had been taken towards making a dray road from Waipa to Ragan. The Government had no intention of extending the telegraph to Raglan. The Steamer LunaThe Hon Mr Scotland moved that members have the right of passage by the Government steamer when passing the principal port of the place of their destination. He referred to his own case at the close of last session, in which to prevent the delay of certain wealthy men, representatives of banking institutions, he had been refused a passage to Taranaki by the Luna hurrying on to the Manukau. Dr. Pollen replied. He referred to the insinuation of the influence of the Bank of New Zealand over the Government as like an elephant moving "a ship to pick up a pin. He denied such influence. The accommodation was mutual and if the officers of the Bank attempted such influence, he would himself first resist. He urged Mr Scotland to withdraw the resolution which was withdrawn accordingly. The Marriage Act Amendment Bill was' read a second time.
