(Per Press Telegram Agency.) Monday. ut . An Extraordinary Case. At the last Criminal sittings a man named Cameron was convicted of rape on a girl named Eliza Smith, aged 14 years, and sentenced to ten years and 50 lashes, although recommended to mercy by the jury. Affidavits of a very strong character have since been sworn, proving the girl to have been of a grossly dissolute character, and that Cameron could not possibly have assaulted her at the time or tinder the circumstances. She swore to evidence not forthcoming at the trial.
