The Son-Mr- Reynolds'! Retirement-.;
Some Otago members waited on the Com missioner of Telegraphs yesterday re telegraphic extension in that province, when Mr. Reynolds said the claims of some of the Northern districts strongly pressed upon him but he invariably opposed them, because he was convinced, from their remoteness, the stations would never pay. Yet in some cases he had been over-ruled by bis colleagues- From the remarks which fell from him it appears he will resign at the end of the present session. The inference makes room for Mr Stafford. An additional reason for so believing is that already there are seven members of executive, the limit allowed by law. On the other hand it must be recollected that the Dunedin Star last year gave currency to the report that after the dissolution Mrßeynoldswillobtainrepose by being nominated to the Upper House. Fish's rumoured candidature for one of the Dunedin peats supports the idea that Reynolds is about to retire from active political life. The Constitutional Bills are ready for circulation immediately. They are two in number, the first is said to make the abolition of the Middle Island permissive; the second provides machinery for establishing a new order of things.
The Nelson Little Pig Killed
The Nelson members waited on the Treasurer this morning with the Loan Bill. Major Atkinson gave them no hope of the Government assisting. It is stated that the Colonial Government themselves are hard pushed,all the means they possess being required to meet the colony's engagemnt.
