GRAHAMSTOWN.

(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Ohinemuri Leasing Regulations. The meetißg at Ohinemuri against the leasing regulations did not come off, as the intimation that alterations were to be made rendered it unnecessary.

Mr Stafford and his Constituents. The Advertiser contains ihe following:— "We have good authority for stating that tie paragraph which recently appeared in the Lyttelton Times, respecting Mr Stafford's intention of seeking a seat for some other constituency than Timaru, is without foundation, and was quite unauthorised. The people of Timaru have given n o indication of a desire to change their representative, and, nntil they do so, Mr Stafford will not desert those with whom he has been politically connected for so long a time. There is, therefore, we regret to say, very little chance of inducing him to stand for Grahamstown at the next general election ; although we believe that the expenses of the contest would have been locally subscribed and his return would have been certain."

Water Supply and Batteries for New Goldfields.

A water supply for Tairua field is necessary and likely to be undertaken by a private company.

A third battery for Ohinemuri is being arranged for, and a second one for Tairua. Deputation. >

A number of gentleman, introduced by the Mayor, met Captain Eraser and Mr. Tole today in reference to agricultural leases at Ohinemuri. After a long discussion, it was decided that the present area of fifty acres should stand on the understanding that when as many as possible of that dimensions are taken up, areas of from 100 to 500 pastoral leases over the remainder of the lands will be granted; that the regulation with regard to licensing fee be struck out; that the rent for the period of seven years be 1/ per acre per annum ; the second seven years, l/6per acre per annum; the third seven years, 2/ per acre. It is generally understood that long before the first seven years have expired a freehold can be obtained under the provisions of the Goldfields Act, 1869.
