Desperate Attempt at Suicide in Hobson-street.

Mr.. Wti/ltam Eobwsjn, a brother of Captain Robinson, of the schooner Jessie Henderson, made a most determined attempt to commit suicide this afternoon. Mr Robinson resides with his sister, Mrs Watson, iv Hob-son-street. To-doy, at about a quarter to two o'clock, he lay down on the sofa after dinner. He has been very unwell for some lime, having been under treatment to Dr Hooper for erysipelas. Leaving the dinner things on the table, Mrs Watson went round to her grocer's down the street, remaining absent about ten minutes. When she returned a horrible sight met her \i w. A knife was lying on the table covered with b'ood. There was blood also on the tablecloth, and clots of blood on the floor from the sofa to the door. Following the fearful track, Mrs. Watson, seriously alarmed, ran to the back yard. Her brother was here discovered sitting on some wood holding his hands to his neck. His throat was cut almost from ear to ear, and blood was pouring from the wound. Mrs Watson's cries alarmed the neighbour?, who ran in and were shocked at the terrible sight which the house and Mr Kobinson presented. Medical assistance was at once sent for, and Dr. Hooper and Dr. Bayntun were in attendance in a very short time. An examination of the wound after the sufferer was got to be revealed the fact that],the jugular vein was not severed, and though the'unfortunaW. man must have used the most determined cIX. rts to complete bis puipose, the depots pronounced the wound not fatal. Mr. Kobinson was quite sens-ible, but gave no reason for his extraordinary act. i rom what we learn, it appears that disapp intment in a love affair has preyed upou his mind for some time past. i.This led to his drinking heavily, and there is little doubt that the consequent mental aberation has resulted in the present attempted s^lfdestruction.
