John Leonard, alias "Little Johnny," who was only just out of prison was fined 10s for being drunk the second time within two days. John Hall, Henry Kelly, and John McConnell, for the same offence was fintd 5a aod costs, or the usual alternative. WANDERING COWS. James Conley, boatman and cow-keeper, appeared in answer to a summons, charging him with a breach of by-law Ko. 1, with allowing his two cows, "Fanny" and "Jane" to be at large in Mechanics' Bay on the 3rd instant. Mr Conley pleaded guilty, and wag fined 5s and costs. . CONSTABLE AXAM'S CHIMNEY. James 'Axam, of the Auckland Constabulary, was summoned for allowing the chimney of his abode to catch lire on the 13th. Mr Axam pleaded guilty, he had only

removed into the house five weeks ago, and was not aware that the chimney was foul, his landlord had assured him that it was perfectly clean. ' • _ The Bench, considering that Mr Axamhad been deceived by his landlord, took a lenient view of the case, and imposed the nominal fine of Is and costs.
