HAMILTON.

(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Mill Burnt at Taxnaherews has reached here that Read's mill at Tamaheve was burnt down last night. A fewweeks ago some sticks and rags were found under the mill which had burned but gone out, Mr Read was staying with Captain Steele when the news arrived this morning. The mill was insured in the National for £450. The loss is estimated at £1000. |

"vvYdirtci particular attention to the fine inflicted upon Thomas Kecketts, master of the Fannie, cutter ; namely, £5 and costs or about £8 in all, for not having a light burning at the time the Police boat passed. The facts of the case are thse : JKicketts saw the light hoisted at tundown, and went home leaving two men on board. At ten o'clock, the men say, finding the light out, we re-trimmed the lamp, and this was after a very heavy squall, during which the light was blown out. Capt. Burgess, knowing the universal good conduct of the master, Mr Beckitts, did not press the case, particularly after it was found that the master had used all reasonable precautions and attention, but the unique J.P., Mr W. J. Hurt, laid down the law to Mr J. B. JKusiel', who appeared for Capt. Burgess, and notice is now given—" That all vessels must have a watch kept on deck—so that if the light goes out it can be at once re-lit." On the certificates of Drs. Purchas and Zinzan, a woman named Manning was committed from Onehunga to the asylum to-day. Insanity consequent on after confinement.

A Provincial Gazette was issued this afternoon, containing proclamations constituting a Highway. District at Coromandel, abolishing the public pound at the bottom of Victo-ria-street; appointing the first meeting of Epsom ratej. ayers at the Junction Hotel, on the 26th ; notifying the charges to be made by the local analyst, announcing the election of Mr Buchanan as a member sf the Harbour Board ; and setting forth the regulations under which agricultural leases will be granted at Ohinemuri.
