Tossed by a Bull in the Air.
b<ARROW ESCAPE OF MR JOSEPH
MAY.
Mr Joseph May, of Epsom, has a very valuable bull in his possession,lately imported from England at an expense of over £500. On Saturday evening, about, five o'clock, Mr; J. May was in the act of driving the animal from the paddock into the shed, using a small switch he had picked up, and neglecting the precaution of takfng bis whip.. The bull tuddenly turned on Mr May, and attacked him in a fierce and determined manner; knocked him down, and but for the peculiar shape of the horns, wonld certainly have gored him to death in a very few -minutes. As it was, Mr May dexterously avoided some of the most violent thrusts of the furious animal, and, while down on the grass pluckily seized the bull by the nose, and called loudly for help. Mrs May hearing the cries for assistance gave the alarm, and the brother rushed to the spot and gave timely aid, as Mr May was becoming exhausted with his herculean struggle with the powerful beast. On being rescued it was found that the sufferer had sustained Very serious injury on various parts of the body ; his leg is much injured and a severe bruise was sustained on the temple. Dr. Wright was quickly in attendance. The bull was not considered a dangerous animal, although it would at times shew an irritability of temper, supposed to be the result of being teazed while on the voyage out. Singular enough, Mr. Joseph May was mentioning to a friend only the other." day, his surprise that there were so few people attacked by Inills in this country, compared to the frequemt attacks made on people at Home. Another attack on a man by a bull is said to have ; been made at the Kawau on Friday. Tif» man had lauded from a cutter with som* other mates, and was. rushed by a bull, aastainlng so much injury that his mates brought him. on to tOWHi;
