EXAMINATIONS AND DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES AT THE PARNELL CATHOLIC SCHOOLS.
The examinations and distribution of prizes at the schools conducted by the Sisters ; of Mercy in connection with the Church „ ; of Sk John the Baptist, Parnell, took place to-day. The llev. Father Fynea, > ' Vicar-General and pastor of the congregation, ; presided, the lady superioress and Father - Walter Macdonald were also present. The examination of St. Joseph's, junior school, commenced at eleven o'clock, when a largo number of ladies were present. .The general , neatness of tho grounds around-the school, , and the attention paid to the cultivation of.. r: a refined tast", were very noticeable. The ; examinations in this school included, in addition the ordinary subjects, questions on New Zealand geography; and the maps hung,S around the echool-room shewed that this im- ,; portant branch 01 education is not neglected. ... ■ There are 100 pupils on the roll of St. Joseph's school. The same attention and evident mutual trust between teacher and pupil, which is observable in all the nuns' schools, ; was very manifest during the examinations, and the little pupils acquitted themselves most creditably and in a way that must be eminently pleasing to their patient and painstaking teachers. The examination was diversified by music and recitations.
