It was customary to take passengers in harbour steamers without there i being anything between passengers and the boiler. Bulkheads were not put for the purpose of safety from steam, bnt to divide the vessels into compartments. To Mr. Whitaker ; she had no certificate, but was not running contrary to law. Richard Henry Yoeman, boiler-maker, Auckland, had twenty years experience, supplied whole set of tubes for the steamer Lily towards the close of last year ; the tubes were well made; he overhauled the boiler at the same time, and found everything sound and fitted for the work. Charles Eobinson, Engineer, and Thomas Bawson, master of the Lily, at the time of the accident deposed that the tubes and boiler were regulary inspected.. This being the whole case, Mr. Eees commenced to address the jury for the defence. teesk; *
