(From our own Correspondent.) This day. CrushiagsThe Bricht Smile retorted to-day, and obtained 1270z5. lOdwts for the fortnight's yield. They were only crushing with ten head of stampers during the first week. The Golden Calf have finished crushing 30 tons. They have 130z9. gold from speci-. mens, and are retorting general amalgam. The Cure obtained SOibs of rich specimens to-day. At the Police Court to-day, James Bennet Warren, a-new arrival, was charted with assaulting Emma J_ ill, a married woman, and attempting to throw her down. The case was.laidas a common assault. >.The defendant's solicitor pleaded guilty but defendant himself pleaded not guilty. Mr. Tyler. counsel for the prosecution, then stated that under the circumstances he would lay the charge is an indictable offence, as an attempt to commit rape. The accused then wished to withdraw his plea, but the magistrate refused to allow bim. An information was sworn and the case adjourned till Monday.
