ANNUAL RATEPAYERS' MEETING, ONEHUNGA.
The annual meeting of the ratepayers of Onehunga was held- last night in the Choral Hall, Mr Lundon, M.P.0., being voted to the chair., The report of the outgoing Board, referring to the principal works done in the district, was read. The financial report went fully into the details. The following is an abstract: —lncome : Balance from last year, £1 Is 8d; rates collected, £153 11a lOd ; special and ordinary grants from Provincial and General Governments, £137 2s • dog collars, £27 ss. Total, £319 0a 6d. Expenditure : New works, £64 19s 4d; existing roads, £105 17s 2d ; metalling roads, &c , £78 3s ; miscellaneous, including rent and salaries, £38 19s 3d. Total, £287 18s 9d; leaving a balance of £31 Is 9d. The usual certification by the auditors was read. Mr W. Eastwood moved the adoption of the reports. This was seconded by Mr C. C. Fleming, and after some discussion was carried unanimously. The rate for the present year was fixed at _d in the pound on the value to sell. Eight gentlemen were nominated as trustees, and after voting by show of hands, the chairman pro forma demanded a poll. A poll clerk arid scrutineers were appointed, and the result of the voting shewed that the successful men were J. D. Jackson, 103 vetes ; G. Codlin, 98 ; J. Lundon, 91 ;J. Mclntyre, 80; J. Haslie, 78. Messrs J. R. Hendry and John Brierly were voted auditors, nem. con. Messrs Lynda and William Sapp, having the majority of votes, were elected fenceviewers. During the proceedings Mr J. D. Jackson intimated that he retired from being secretary and collector, and he not only received a very hearty vote of thanks for past services, but got placed at the head of the poll. Thanks were given to Messrs G. M. O'Rdrke and John Lundon for their exertions as representatives of the township, and for the substantial benefits bestowed on the place through their instrumentality. Thanks were also voted to the out-going Board and the chairman. There was a good deal of growling on the part of one or two, but the meeting as a whole was 'thoroughly good natured, and I got; through the business in handwith tolerable expedition.
