ACCIDENT ON THE RAILWAY.
As the four-o'clock train from Auckland to Mercer was passing Messrs McLaughlin and Bassett's farms yesterday evening, the engine csme in contact with four beasts, who had strayed on to the line. All of them were killed, and their carcases were to be seen, this morning more or less mutilated lying at the side of the line. We learn that the railway fences heie are in a very bad state, .and 'the straying of cattle, on tlie line is of very frequent occurrence. If this is not looked to accidents destructive of human life as well as cattle will be likely to occur.
