LATEST SOUTHERN TELEGRAMS.
WELLINGTON. (From our own Correspondent.) This day. More Geese to Pluck. There are ■whisperings of other journalistic ■ventures here, but they are not likely to come to much. It is very likely, however, that some sort of a new paper will be published during the session. An attempt at starting a Punch has been discussed a good deal in a certain circle. Fever Among the Maoris. Fever is reported to be destructive amongst the Maoris of the province at present. Sir Julius Vogel's Health. The Post says that private letters state that Sir Julius Vogel has regained robust health, but other letters quite as private, and more reliable, say nothing of the kind. It is pretty certain there has been hot work between Sir Julius and Dr Featherstone, and very hot correspondence, so much ao that I- am told it is very questionable whether it will ever see daylight in the precincts of Parliament. Mr Kennaway, it is said, is enjoying all the happiness which idleness can confer, while be draws his salary with the punctuality of a civil servant, he does not put a foot inside the threshold of the Agent-General's office. Ministerial Conference. Friends of the Ministry beam with confidence when speaking of the stability of the Ministry, and hold forth in such a way as to confer an idea that the Excutive have some secret trump card to play to the House. One never sees a Ministerial hint of any kind in the New Zealand Times now-a-day.
