THE WAR IN SPAIN.
There has been some sharp fighting near Valmaseda between General Loma's troops and the Carl'ists. " Events of considerable gravity," says Oalignani, "are occurring in Spain. General Loma, marching by the Eacartaciones Mountain, is driving the Carlists before him. At the same time, a part of the Pretender's troops, badly paid and tired of the war, have risen and made a pronunciamiento. General Aguirre has placed himself at their head, and is about to lead them to solicit their pardon. A great battle may be expected to be fought in Navarre. The Government forces have been manoeuvring during two months to drive the rebels towards the frontier, and are going to attack them in the hope of putting an end to the war at one blow.
