(From our own Correspondent.) This day. General Government and the PoliceSome time ago the Otago Daily Times stated as an undeniable fact thai the"'General Government intended to seek power from the Assembly to take under its control the police forces of the various provinces, and that Mayor Atkinson and Mr Bowen would be probable candidates-for the office of Inspec- , tor-General of police. The Tribune says there is not a single word of truth in the story from beginning to end, and that the story could only have emanated from the crazy brain of some inveterate billet hunter in Otago.
