(From our Own Correspondent.) This day. Tararua Prospectors' Crushing-

The crushing of the Tararua stuff is conapleted, and is now being treated in the berdans. It will be finished to-night. The main parcel^ was of 2 tons 5 cwt. from the shaft. The other two lots, 1 cwt. each of stuff, produced a little plate of amalgam, 300 ozs of coarse amalgam from the box crushing. Altogether, the lot will probably yield better than 100 ozs. /

The Moa tribute crushed 7 tons for 8 ozs 15 dwts.

The Shotover tribute from 35 tons obtained 22 ozs 15dwts melted gold. Public Meeting. A public meeting was held last night for the purpose of petitioning forjincreaaed representation of the Thames district in the Colonial Parliament; the Mayor presided. Mr Rowe in moving the first resolution pointed out the anomaly of the Thames with a population of 13,000 having only one re- • presentative, while Taranaki with 5465 had three representatives. 'He drew other comparisons pointing out thej glaring inequality of the representation and injustice to the ThamesJ and moved, "Tnat the petition be adopted and signed by the Mayor and Councillors of the Borough, the members of the Provincial Council, the. ohairman and members of the Waiotahi, Kauaeranga, and Parawai District Boards, and the chairman of this meeting." Mr. Carpenter seconded the motion, which was oarried unanimously. Dr. Kilgour, after pointing out the • Centralistic failing prevalent at the Thames, said he could not see how the Government was likely to propose their petitien. He moved — " That the petition be sent to Charles O'Neill, Esq., M.H.R,, for presentation, and that letters be sent to his Honor the Superintendent, the Hon. G. W. Stafford, and other members favourable to the prayer of the petition, asking their support to it in the House." Mr Bagnall, M.P.C., seconded the motion in a short address, and it was carried unanimously. The Gem. A meeting of shareholders in the Gem claim last night resolved to form a company with 10,000 shares and 500J) capital, R.
