PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE.
cc Magic Toys" and "A Night with the Brigands," comprised the programme of Saturday evening at the Prince of Wales Theatre; and though the former piece was occasionally broad, and scarcely within the bounds of propriety, it passed with evident satisfaction. Between the pieces, the various conundrums (about twenty) were read, and the following very old one was considered the best: " Why is a sheep the most disreputable animal in the world ?" "Because it gambols as soon as born, lives on the turf, associates with black legs, and when it dies is not worth a dam." Generally these were about the worst set of conundrums we have seen ; and one, of a personal character, reflecting on a gentleman of high reputation, ought never to have been admitted; and evidenced exceeding bad taste both on the mongrel writer and the public readers. We notice that the Theatre -will be re-opened this evening by the Star Company, including Miss May Howard, Miss CJara Stephenson, and Mr Collier, when a new drama, entitled "Jezebel; or, The Life of an Adventuress," will be for the first time introduced to an Auckland audience.
