MEETING OF GERMANS.
A meeting of the German residents in this nity was held last evening at the Thames Hotel for the purpose of reviving the German Clnb in Auckland, The meeting was convened by circular, and thirty-five gentlemen were present. Mr Buoholz, the German Consul, being called to the chair, explained the business of the evening. The object of the Clnb was to promote good fellowship among the German residents in and about Auckland; neriodical friendly gatherings were to be held, and the newspapers and general literature of the Vaterland to be provided for subscribers. A glee club would also be formed in connection with the Society. Mr A. Diethelm proposed that a German Club be formed in Auckland.
The motion was seconded and was unanimously agreed to. It was proposed and earned that Mr Bucho'z be "President of the Club, Mr. G. Yon der Heyde, M.H.R , vice-president ; Mr Butschkove, secretary; and Mr Schwartz, treasurer. A committee consisting of Messrs Bucholz, Yon der Heyde, Diethelm, I. Alexander, Schwartz, and others, was constituted to prepare a code of rules and regulations to be laid before a meeting to be held on Thursday next, at the same place. The quarterly subscription was fix^d at 7s. 6d., to be paid in advance. The meeting, after the conclusion of the business, resolved itself into a harmonious gathering, and some capital German songs were sung. The fragrant weed was not forgotten, nor was the brown beer unquaffed.
