NEW CALEDONIA.
On the 25th ultimo, a French warder committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart. I believe he was reprimanded slightly a short time before for some dereliction of duty.
A French ship arrived from Bordeaux on the 28th with someteing like 350 tnns of wine consigned to Adefc, Pellitier, and Clarel. Yon will scarcely credit that, exclusive of brandy, absynth, or vermouth, we consume here about 16,000 casks of wine per annum, and yet one rarely sees a person intoxicated ; but the wine is really good that is imported here.
Monsieur Ca_bonneau, who purchased the wreck of the Wanui, has done remaikably well in his spec. As I before stated, the wreck was knocked down for £94. The Wanui could not be got off, but everything, including boiler and engines, has been recovered, and it is estimated he will realise a profit of £1,200 to £1,500 by his speculation.
