AUCKLAND SURVEYS.
To the Editor of the Evening. Star. Sir, —I see in this morning's Cross "that Captain Clayton says he wanted the ship Dunedin to have a disinterested opinion about the damaged wire, aud as he had passed Custom's entries tor the game, he could not give a disinterested opinion." Why does'nt he speak out plainly instead of humbugging the public about Cu&tom's entries, and say that he could not risk giving a survey which might be against one of his own directors in the New Zealand Insurance Company. And why accept payment to survey all or any part cf a ship's cargo if he is not a thoroughly independent and disinterested man ?—I am, &c, An Old Marine, Auckland, June 23, 1875.
