A passenger named Morris, on board the City of Adelaide (s) attempted to commit suicide, when the steamer was off Wilson's Promontory. He threw himself overboard. A boat was lowered and the man was rescued through the exertions of the third mate and a passenger named Thomson. They were rewarded for their gallantry with an addreas and a sum of money raised by subscription on board. A man named John Tanner committed suicide by shooting himself. He had quarrelled with his wife. The river Campispe overflowed, and flooded Rochester. There was a heavy fall of rnin at Kiimore, causicg the heaviest flood known. A petition signed by over 3000 persons has been presented to the House in favour of the Railway Refreshment Bill. Fifteen petitions against the same have also been presented by various members. Judge Dunn, at a recent sitting of the court at Maryborough, behaved in an extiaordinary mariner, deciding for plaintiff in one case, and for defendant in another casa, though the two cases were generally^'alike. There was an impression in coutt that this conduct was caused through an excess •of drink. The judge drank while on the Bench. He is now ill, and Judge Bowman has beon appointed temporarily in his place. The affair is likely to be inquired into.
