PHRENOLOGY.
WE invite special attention to the announcement that Professor Bruce, the famous phrenologist, will give his first entertainment this evening in the City Hall, where any person who may like to undergo a painless phrenological examination of the head with the view of a statement of character by the Professor will have that gratuitous privilege. This science, of which some persons are sceptical, contains a great deal of truth in it, but it is the mind that makes the man and partly operates in moulding the features, and a close observer will have little difficulty in detecting character,in the expression of the eyes and the general outlines of the features. The character is reflected often through the features, it may be as through a glass darkly, but there are the lineaments unmistakably stamped with the inner tendencies for good or evil. The secret motives of some men, like Palmer, the Rugely poisoner, may not be detected by the philosopher, but these are rare cases indeed. Ine Press of the different countries through which Professor Bruce has travelled speak favorably of his entertainment, and telUus that the Professor has a .novel and happy way of simplifying phrenology, which cables his hearers to learn more of science in an hour than can be learned from books ma year. Ihe entertainment to-night will be useful aud amusing. ■ ;
In the case of Messanger and wife v. Palmer, for alleged damages done to certain fixtures in a butcher's? shop in Pitt-street, the cowwelj for plaintiffs,^ having heard the # T icl_»ee, consented to a ».n»twfc.
