"We are indebted to Mr James McEwen for further particulars of the unfortunate -voyage of the Mary Melville to Napier, conveyed to him in a letter from the captain. We have already learned by telegraph tbat the mate was washed overboard and drowned. It appears that the weather encountered was very severe. All the spare lines were carried away, also the maintopmast staysail, lifebuoy, and cork fender. The boat was smashed to pieces, the chain-plates started, and everything moveable washed overboard. In addition to the casualty to the mate one of the crew had his collar bone broked, so that the captain must have had a very anxious time.

The as. St»r of the South left Wellington last night f f-r Napier and this port. The brigantine Magellan Cloud has it appea?s made another tiip to the 'Chatham Islands from TjytteJton. "We presume her charter by Mr Ho.od has been renewed, as Her former chaiter expired last trip.
