[Per Presa Telegram Agency.] This day, Education Bill Agitation.
A public meeting took place last night to consider the new Education Bill. It was densely crowded. The following resolutions were proposed by Mr Wyun Williams, late Provincial Solicitor, and uuanimously agreed to :— " This meeting is of opinion that the amended Education Bill introduced during the present sitting of the Provincial Council, will, if allowed to become law be seriously detrimental to the system of education introduced by the Education Ordinance of 1873, and it is also strongly of opinion that his Honor the Superintendent, the members of the Executive Government, and member? of the Provincial Council should mutually agree that the Bill be postponed until next session." The utmost unanimity prevailed, and all the remarks against the Education policy of the present Government, and favourable to the views expressed in the Superintendent's message to the Provincial Council were loudly applauded. All remarks to the effect that if the Government did not withdraw their Bill, the Superintendent should veto it were also loudly cheered. Both Press and Times join in supporting the views of the Superintondent, and condemn in strong terms the bill introduced by the Executive, and if not allowed to drop, hope the Superintendent will veto the measure.
