SLAUGHTER-HOUSE SITE.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sir, —A correspondent in this mornieg's Cross in reference to the proposal of Mr Macready, writes of contaminating tbe springs at Low and Motion's mill. Is he aware that the proposed site for the Slaughter-house is nearly half a mile from the Springs, bounded by both a fresh and salt creek, and, considerable below the level of the water supply for the city. Unless the impurities of the Slaughter house are meant to run up a hill, it is hard to conceive hew it would contaminate the Springs. The time has arrived when the conveniences of the trade and consumers must be considered of more importance than that of the cattle breeders and salesman. If it will reduce the price of meat one halfpenny in the pound, it will be of considerable importance.—Yours, &c., Vindex.
