Thomas Griffiths was charged with deserting from the ship Emily McLaren, at Auckland on the 6th inst.

The captain proved the case and prisoner was sentenced to one months imprisonment with hard labour.

The captain said that the prisoner had also stolen his pocket book containing £3 10s and some valuable papers, and a charge of larceny would be preferred against him.

VAMBOSING WITH CLOTHING,

David Power was charged with stealing two blankets, 1 coat, 2 pair of trousers, 5 Crimean shirts, 1 hair brush, 3 pairs Eocks total value £2, the property of Edwin Nicholas from the Manukau Hotel, at Onehunga on the 16th May. The prisoner pleaded that he took the clothing in a swag in mistake for one he had left at the hotel.

Inspector Broham asked for a remand to produce witnesses to prove felonious intent.
