A great exodus of coasting craft from the Manukau took ptace this morning, owing to the sudden change of wind. Among them were the Hero, which resumes her interrupted voyage from the Kaipara to the Waikato with timber; the Mary Webster in ballast for Kaipara ; the Amaranth and Tawera with sundries for the same port; and the cutter Dawn with a general cargo for Raglan, The schooner Effie Meikle has arrived from Gisborne and the Coast with the following cargo : 10 casks tallow, 22 hidee, 22 sheepskins, 27 bags bones, 1 case mer--o'iandise, 34 pkgs., 3 bags grass seed, 12 bags wheat. The ketch Fanny Kelly from Wangaroa brings 2147 pieces (27,301 feet) sawn§ timber and 27,500 shingles, for G. Holdship & Co. The fo e-anc!-aft schoocer Lsetitia, Capt. Palmer, cleared out today for Rarotanga with a general cargo, shipped by Lewis Bros. Passengers :—Mr and Mrs Caffery, Miss Mary Caffery ; Messrs. A., R, and U. Glover, James McQuinn ; Miss McQuinn The schoonef Queen, from Hokianga via Wangaroa, bririgs 30 hides, 1 ton flax, 600 feet timber, order ; and 28,000 feet timber for G. Holdship and Co. A brig was signalled this aftflrnoon. It is nearly certain that it is the Jane, wbi -h sailed yesterday for for Newcastle, put back from tho heavy blow oatslde. Tha brig Derwent (ughfced by the Golden Isle on Tuesday off the Hen and Chickens) arrived from Newcastle lait night. She left port on the 22nd nit, and has consequently made the run in 18 days. Captain Bower reports strong southerly winds till sighting the Three Kings on the 3rd. Down the coast ' SB. winds and variable weather. She bring 3 a cargo of coals for Q W. Biuney. The thr->e-masted schooner Mera and the barque Willi-im Gifford both bound to Oamaru, left Newcastle about a week before the Dei-went. We §have not yet heard of their arrival. The ship Fernglen Is to come alongside the wharf again almost immediately, ?he wiil take the berth now occupied by the Emily McLaren, <v lar^e proportion of her cargo is awaiting her, and she will receive quick dispatch for London. The Star of the South reached T-yttelton from Wellington yesterday, four days "out She had been compelled to seek shelter from the boisterous weather under th=. Kaikr.uras. The barque Moneynick has hauled away from the wood whwf, and will sail for Hohianga in a few days. Th.9 briganline Helena is advertise! to sail for Kaipara (Wairoa) on Saturday next. Mr John Reid has chartered her to load timber thence for Dunedin. The Forfarshire is no* 84 days out. She is a power. ful clipper-built ship, aod may be expected within the next week. The barque Comet (late Hokule'e), which came hera last year with a cargo of .lumber from-Puget's Sound, left Oamara on the 2nd February for Hosart Town She called at Dunedin for stores after knocking about the coast nearly a month, and left there on the 27th February. No tidings of her have come tohasd since Fears are entertained for hor safety. The s.s Macgregor is due to-day from Sydney. She leaves to-morrow with the English mail for Baa Francisco. The Rowena arrived from Taurarga I?sb night. The following is a list of her passengers : —Messrs Ellis, Grey, Johnson, Fiend, Parkinson, Leahy, Gotty, Supper, Anderson, '3111 am, Kobiiis, Wrigley, Captain Sk?ets and six children, Captain Mtnswell, Miss Conley. Mrs Bdgecumbe, one native woman and child, . The Flirt is discharging her Lyttelton cargo at the outer eastern T of the wharf. . The barque ifmily McLaren has completed the discharge of the Auckland portion of her cargo. She proceeds to Napier with the remainder in a few daya. The barque Especulador has taken up a position in the stream, in preparation for sailing for Kaipara in ballast Mr Hanson, of Bseson'a Island, Coromandel, the builder of the schooner Onward, is employed at present building a fore-and-aft schooner, about 100 tons register, for Messrs Stone Bros. Her dimensions are: Length of keel, 74ft; beam, 20ft 6ia ; depth of hold. Bft 6in. The vessel has nearly all her planking up, and her decks are laid and being c miked. We understand, from experienced persons who have seen her, that she is a strong wholesome looking craft, and ought to render a good account of herself, both as regards carrying and speed. She is expected to be launched about two months hence. She is intended for the Southern trade.
