WELLINGTON.
(From our own Correspondent.) ••••• Thia day.1 The " Times" on the Fence. The attitude of the New Zealand Times has been very wary since its famous article on the morning after the news of Mr Vogel's enforced detention, but the' nail theh driven into the Ministry has not yet been clinched, and the summary for Europe this morning refers to the position of the Ministry in the most discreet of phraseology, while it overwhelms Sir Donald McLean with kudos for his late successful negotiations amongst the Northern natives. Tempestuous Weather. From Friday nigjit till this morning we have had tempestuous weather. The Albion, which is the fastest boat visiting New Zea-, land, was forty hours going to Lyttelton from here. She usually does it in seventeen. On the other hand, theflschooner Friendship, from Oamaru, coming before the gale, came up in about twenty-four hours, and the Herald from Lyttelton in about the same time. We have had no accidents to our shipping, except the.yacht Red-Jacket being run into in the dark and sunk. It ia said that part of the cause of the Albion's long passage to Lyttelton was this :—A coil of rope dropped over her stern accidentally, and got foul of the screw and retarded her progress considerably.
