Interim Secretary : Charles Reid. The success which has attended the establishment , of the existing Insurance Companies in New Zealand ; the large and increasing field for Insurance ottered by the progressive increase ot buildings throughout the Colony, and shipping on the Coast; and the gi owing desire evinced by the public to support Local Companies, furnish sufficient" proof that there is ample room for the establishment of a purely Colonial and bond fide Company of Local Shareholders. The Standard Firk and Marine Insurance,; Com.l' Any has therefore been established, and the Provisional Directors have decided that the following shall be distinctive characteristics of the' Company : 1. A really Colonial and National position, to lie-.; * secured by an equitable distribution of the Shares over the whole Colony. 2. An interested body of Shareholders, to bo secured by the utmost care being exercised in. allotting Shares to persons known to bo ? insurers and bond fide traders ; and 3. Carelul find economical management. The promoters believe that an issue of 60,000 Shares . will, for some time to come, meet all the purposes of the Company; and they purpose that of this number 3 i.OOO Shares shall be set apart for allotment over tho Northern Provinces The Directors have unanimously decided to place themselves on an equality with other applicants as to the allotment of Shares. Applications for Shares will be received by Geo. W. This Company has been formed for the purpose of Manufacturing Paper from Phormium Tenax and other New Zeland fibres. The great demand for .rags in excess of the supply in the English Market has led to the use of Esparto grass, old ropes, straw, wood, and many other substances of inferior quality. The chief difficulty experienced by all paper manufacturers '• is that of obtaining supplies of fibrous materials of sufficient strength at a cheap rate. •:This'Cjmpany will enjoy the advantage, possessed by no English manufacturer, of having an unlimited supply of a raw material which for strength and adaptability cannot be surpassed. c f j, . The Provisional Directors, after much careful investigation, are fully satisaed that Phorminm Tenax * as a staple for the manufacture of xiaper is unequalled. Very large quantities of tow are now annually exported from this colony, and employed for that purpose: With the aid of- gentlemen formerly engaged in the manufacture, estiraatesfof the cost and erection of tho necessary plant, and the expense of production, &c., have been prepared with great care. The Provisional Directors are confident that an article can be produced far superior to any imported, at a much less cost, and after liberally ■ allowing for contingencie, that large profits will accrue to the shareholders. The Provincial Government offer every facility for the selection of the requisite flax lands, and stops are being taken to obtain from the General Government an extension of time for 4 the-£2.000 bonus offered for this manufacture. . . ..: ~ The value of the Paper imported into the colony iir. 1872 was upwards of £40,000. It is believed the Company will be able to supply this demand, and produce a very large surplus, particularly of wrapping papers for exportation. . ■ It is estimated that the entire cost of the Plant wilf not exceed £16,000, and that not more than £2 per share will be required. Application for shares to be made to the Secretary; at 22, Exchaiige, Auckland, up to December 20th' Five Shillings per Share to be paid on application, and Five Shillings per Share on allotment JKurthcr Calls" ■ not exceeding Five Shillings per Share will bo made as required, twenty-eight days' notice being'given; ■' > .
