Cruickshank & Co., agents. ■ • The schooner Atalanta cleared out at the Customs to-day for Napier, via Tairua, with 25,000 feet sawn timber. The schooner Tawera has cleared for the Thames in ballast. The Fortune has entered inwards from the Bay of Plenty, via the Thames, with whale oil and produce. The s.s. .Ladybird arrived in the Manukau at ten o'clock this morning from Southern ports. She brings the following passengers —Mr and Mrs Tolson and three children, Mrs Fendelow, Mrs Scott, Mrs Walker, Dr. Ellis, Messrs. McLeod, Hill, Willcocks, Arthur, Hughes, Messrs Dingle, Twigg, Spencer, Mitchell, Be Montell, and thirteen steerage. The fore-and-aft Hawaiian schooner Dauntless, 102 tons, Barrel, master, arrived from Honolulu last night with a cargo of sugar, consigned to Messrs Cruickshank and Co., and a quantity of melado for W. J. Cawkwell Captain Barrel, who is also the owner of the schooner, reports having left Honolulu Ist November j had light winds till making the Great Barrier on Monday lasfc. The S.E. winds were lost on 24deg. 53 S. Passed the Kemedec on Sunday last. Captain Barrel has not visited this port before, and not having a chart of the harbour, signalled the p.s. Challenger, which the schooner passed in Hauraki Gulf, and asked for one of the crew to take the vessel in. The mate went on board, and the Dauntless came up through the Eastern passage last night. Launch.—A new cutter, built by Messrs Sims & Brown for Messrs J. & D. Oxley, was launched this morning, at ten o'clock, from the builders' yards, under Fort Britomart. The launch was a complete success. As soon as the dogs were removed the vessel glided swiftly and smoothly into the water. A bottle of wine was broken at her bows as the cutter began her descent, and the name of " The Fawn" was given her. The dimensions of the new vessel are as follows : —Length of keel, 45 ft; breadth of beam, 15ft; tonnage, 28 tons register. Messrs J. & D. Oxley have sold the cutter to Capt. Lewis, of the schooner Colonist, who intends placing her in the timber trade between Auckland and the Thames.
