WRECK OF A MAIL STEAMER.

Thk Dauntless, which arrived last night, brings later San Francisco papers, from which we extract the following account of the wreck of the Pacific mail steamer Costa Ilica near San Francisco :—"The iron propeller Costa Eica, belongingto the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, under the command of Captain Lapidge, ten days from Honolulu, with passengers, Government mails, and a full cargo of sugar, etc., ran on the rocks near the Golden Gate, at the entrance of the harbour, and between Bonita Light and Fort Point. This disaster happened on the evening of the 18th instant, during a very heavy fog. No lives lost. The cargo is being saved in a damaged state, and it is devoutly hoped that the steamer may yet be gotten off by camels and by the aid of experienced wreckers. The Commercial Herald (San Francisco) of October 2 contains the following, showing that the calamity was not so complete as had been anticipated : —"As intimated in our previous issue, the Pacific mail steamer Costa Rica has been successfully hauled off the rocks and placed in the Dry Dock for examination and repairs. The injuries bustained to the hull of the Bteamship were not so serious, and in a few short weeks this favourite iron propell«r will be again as good as new, and prepared to resume her trips to Honolulu. In the meantime two barques have been speedily dispatched to the Sandwich Islands, with passengers, Government mails, and full cargoes of general merchandise for Honolulu. The cargo per Costa Eica is being told at auction in a damaged state for account of whom it may concern. We are informed that the LI.S. steamship Saranac is to be dispatched to Honolulu on tho 4th inst. to relieve the U.S. steamship Portsmouth."
