CRICKET.
A match was played on Saturday at the North Shore between eleven of the local club and eleven of the Grafton Road Club. The game was well patronised by spectators, ladies especially showing up in great numbers. A band Avas in attendance, and considerably enhanced the attractions of the match. _ The cricket exhibited was not of a high class, and we recommend the. two clubs to stick well to their practice. The game was very evenly contested throughout. In the first innings, by which the mutch was decided, Grafton Road topped the North Shore by four. When time was called Grafton Road had five wickets doAvn in their second essay for 11 runs, leaving them 31 to get to win, so that it is doubtful how the game would have terminated had it been played out. Rees, in the North Shore first innings, was caught by long stop without scoring, but in the second innings he carried his bat right through the innings for a well-played 25. Connell's bowling was very effective on the Grafton side, while on the other Rees, with his slows, contrived to establish a complete "funk" among his inexperienced opponents.
