Agent:— T. PEACOCK, OPTICIAN, ) QUEEN STREET, NEAR THE BANK OF NIW ZEALAND. THE "SINGER" TRIUMPHANT. TH E following abstract is taken from the Custom-house report of the Melbourne Journal of Commerce, showirg the import value of Sewing Machines imported by Victoria during he • year 1872 from the two leading Sewing Machine Manufacturers in the world. The Machines imported i from makers of less note are not taken into consideration :—Stanford and. Co., Agents for the " Singer" Manufacturing Company, 4710 cases, value £24,955 ; Long and Co., Agents for the Wheeler and Wilson Company, 1035 cases, value £8040 ; showing r difference in favor of the " Singer " Machine of 3084 ( cases, value £10,309. This extraordinary success of the i "SINOER" has been mainly achieved by the Company's "New Family" Machine, which is ' universally acknowledged to be the most simple to earn, the easiest to work, unequalled for strength and beauty of stitch, and the most complete and perfect in mechanism and accessories for every variety of Domestic Sewing and Embroidery. The task of selecting a Sewing Machine is thereforo rather a difficult one, especially if tho purchaser has 1 no knowledge of machines, and has no other guido than the representation of various doalers > Many peoplo convinced of tho advantage- to bo derived from using a Machine for needlework do not > yet possess one because among so many they are unable to satisfy themselves as to which make is the best. As a practical man and an Engineer allow mo to point out some of tho advantages of these -Machines. They will do all that any other Machine will, and do it better, including Hemming, Quilting, Felling, Cording, Binding, Braiding. Stitching, &c, &c, with a perfect stitch alike on both sides. They are flttod with an improvbi- -ikkak., which prevents tho Machine* turning the wrong way, and so entangling and broalting tho throad.
