DECLARATION OF POLLS.

The declaration of the poll for City West took place at tho Young Men's Christian Association room to-day. .The attendance of electors was very nvagre. The Returning Officer, Colonel Balneavis, declared the numbers to be —> Swanson ... ... ... 580 Boylan ... ... ... 530 Digaan ... ... ... 50G G oldie 452 Prime ... 420 Macready .. .. ... 412 Coupland ... ... ... 3SG Burns ... , ? ... 314 Kirby ... ... ... 175 He declared Messrs Swanson, Boylan, Dignan, Goldie, and Prime duly elected members of the Provincial Council. The candidates, with the exception of Mr Coupland, who was not present, then returned thanks. Mr Boylan spoke somewhat at length regarding the affairs of the province, but the others were mostly very brief. Mr Goldie said that in accordance with the promise made in the outset he would resign if a respectable minority requested him to do so. Mr Burns thanked the electors who had voted for him, and said that considering the shortness of the time during which he had been before the electors as a candidate he had no reason to complain. He had only canvassed for twenty-four hours. Mr Kirby said if Mr Burns had cause to thank the electors, he certainly had more reason for doing so. He did not belong to any party or clique and that was thetreason he stood so low on tho poll. He thanked those who had voted for him for their confidence, and he thanked those who had not, because they had enabled him to devote more time to his legitimate business. The customary vote of thanks to the Returning Officer concluded the .proceedings. CITY EAST. The official declaration of the poll for the district of City East took place to-day in tho hall of th« Mechanics' Institute, when the Returning Officer, Colonel Balneavis, declared the following gentlemen to be duly elected: — Dargaville... ... ... 317 Philips 254 Hurst ... 251 The several gentlemen briefly thanked the electors, and the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to tho Returning Officer.
