This day. Hawking and Sly were brought up charged with stealing £55 worth of specimens. The evidence of Charles Lawlor, manager of Spencer's battery, was to the effect that both the accused had been several times at the battery getting s'uff crushed, and a receipt of which had been found iv Hawkins' possesscssion, was produced. It was in Lawlor's writing, and was a memo, of stone crushed.
The gold purchase case has been remanded till Thursday. The Bright Smile cleaning-up to-day will not be finished before evening. Will have about 1200 ozs,
The drive on the reef through the Queen of Beauty ground has readied the City of London south boundary, who commence driving on Wednesday. The lode is of immense sizo, and formed by the junction of No. 2 and cross reefs.
Caledonian.—There is no improvement in No. 1 reef, which has been cut out by No. 2 in No. 4 winze, and a drive from No. ?• winze.
The Mount Pleasant lodged 2 ozs 13 dwts 12 grs gold from a trial crushing. Sales of City of London are reported at 25s 6d ; Black Angel, 25s ; buyers Caledonians, £12; Bright Smiles, Ga M ; National Insurance, ISs.
