CHARGE OF SPECIMEN-STEALING
THE PERSONATION CASES FELL
GRAHAMSTOWN.
.This day. The second charge against Hawkins, for stealing £7 worth of specimens from the Dauntless and Sink-to-Rise mine, came on to-day, The; same case was heard before the justices onthe- 18th, when the prisoners were discharged for want of sufficient cvi-; dence to send the case to trial. It was brought on again to-day, further evidence being procured. The case is now proceeding. | •' [■' ■■' ■■■'' The Resident Magistrate received a communication through Mr. Brookfield, the Crown Prosecutor, from the Minister of Justice, stating that the Crown will not prosecute in ,the charges of peraonaitiori;/• The .base, against Gibbes has consequently .'been, withdrawn, and all the, others Tirhich were sent to trial of course fall through in consequence of the decision of the Court of Appeal, Wellington. • ■. , , Robert Finlaysori, while cutting a limb off a'tM^STtKe'bnshV'aT'HauralEi saw-mill, cut his foot very badly.. ir.The axe entered the joint at the ball of the foot, dislodging the great toe, which;will probably have to be amputated.
